Donation Thoughts

Tulip Dance, 10 x 10

Anticipation, 10 x 10

Well, these two were painted specifically as donations for an event held annually benefitting the High Museum here in Atlanta.  The request was for small gallery-wrap paintings, 10 x 10 or 12 x 12, to be auctioned online and at a luncheon in the fall.  The top painting of tulips was done for last year's High Arts Day, and I did the Tiffany box for the one to be held this year.

In most cases, however, when I receive donation requests (usually for silent auctions), I give a piece I already have on hand.  Several times I have donated a custom painting of a child, to be created after the purchaser wins the auction.  I don't recommend this, unless one is looking for more to do.  It gets complicated, as the last one of these (which I am just now completing - almost a year after the auction) ended up with the buyers wanting not 1 but 3 kids and ay yi yi!!  They paid the charity a lot for it and I had made a promise, so there you go.  Below is an image of that one.

Sittin on the Dock, 20 x 20

I think my new plan going forward is to donate 3 - 4 pieces annually of current work and to call it a day!

  1. Was glad to see a post- have missed you! Now I see what you have been up to:)
My first thought is lucky lucky parents to get that gorgeous painting of their three children. Wow- that is a treasure and I just love it- bet they do too!
Second thought on the "donation thought" train is that you are very generous to give of your time and share your gift that way. Really beautiful paintings that you did to be auctioned.
Last thought is that you are not only super gifted and talented but smart- I think giving a donation of current work is still beyond generous on your part. I love all your current work!:)

  4. I have to agree with everything Kathy said. All of the paintings are beautiful and the parents are certainly lucky to have this painting of their kids. You have a way with the bodies of children that I don't often see in art. Anyway, love it all and hope you are doing well!

  5. Nancy, every work you do is my "Favorite" I cannot help myself. It is your delicate and sensitive touch, in drawing, in composition and finally in color. I cannot think of anyone who does children better than you.

  7. I am always excited when I see you've posted another painting. I love the tulip painting. It seems so refined and elegant. Your muted colors are gorgeous.

The painting of the children is wonderful! It has a very classic feel. It somehow reminded me of illustrations I have seen in books from the forties. The new owners will have a treasure for a lifetime!
