Before and After

Solitaire,   30 x 30,  Original Version

Solitaire, 30 x 30,  New Version ( colors are closer to the actual in this photo )

Well, I'm not sure if I improved matters, but I saw the original version at Huff Harrington a few weeks ago, and thought it looked too flat, as though someone had been sitting on the roses.   So I brought the painting home and added the upper rose on the left, intending to play the angles.  Now it looks to me like I glued the new rose onto the painting (maybe I need to warm it?)  Yikes, I hate going back into a painting ... but the desire to "improve things" is always there, tempting me to tinker --  I have a feeling that it's not done yet!

  2. It is comforting to me to see that you too feel the need sometimes to "fix" things! I love all your paintings and even love both versions of this one!

  3. I think both versions are beautiful but I do like what you did with the newer version. I think the added rose does give a more dynamic angle to the flower arrangement. I always like that your flower paintings are loose and just looked tumbled in the jar and fresh. You got that with this- movement and gorgeous colors-love the whole painting. No more tinkering:):)

  4. Personally I like them both, but I don't know why we have to sometimes think like the government. "You got to fix it until it's broken."
I had a 36x48" painting that I thought was fairly good, not great. Last week, I thought I would take it, and tweak a few areas. So it went from bad to gugly. That's my girlfriend's word for "gosh awful ugly"
I think the best thing for me to do, is to say a service over it, take it off the stretcher bars, and put it out of its misery.

You've got the talent. You made it better!

  5. I see what you mean Nancy, and I love the warmer version! Your work is outstanding, of course. I got to see your work personally at Greenhouse Gallery's Salon International in 2010...beautiful and sensitive work!
