Simple Shapes

 Photo Reference of Sarah

Charcoal placement

Follow Me, 12 x 9

Loved the simplicity of this shape -- I kind of exaggerated her head in the painting, and made her wider too, I see.  The angles here appealed to me, as well as the attitude of the pose, which was better captured in the sketch than in the painting!  The solid confidence of little kids is pure and strong; it's fun to pare down all elements to the minimum and let it shine.

  2. Une adorable peinture... Une adorable petite fille... La robe aux bretelles croisées lui apporte beaucoup de charme... Et vous l'avez magnifiquement bien saisie dans votre travail. Bravo!
    Gros bisous.

  4. I too was struck by how you used the reference photo and made it into a beautiful painting. I'd have been trying to paint all those details! I was interested to see how you drew the sketch in charcoal. I've often wondered how you did that! Really lovely, Nancy. Thanks for sharing!

  8. Love little Sarah and both the sketch and the painting are beautiful. Your charcoal sketches are works of art in themselves because of the strong attitude you capture with gorgeous shapes. All the angular lines are always strong and dynamic. The painting is so sweet and soft and gorgeous color too. Still has wonderful lines and the gesture is there, just softer. Both are fabulous Nancy:)
